The ºÚÁÏÉçapp Art Department and the Student Ceramics Art Guild is proud to host ceramic artist Sarah Beaty for two days of hands-on demonstrations and an evening lecture. Hosted by the UAF Student Ceramics Art Guild, this exciting event will take place on Wednesday, October 23rd, and Thursday, October 24th, 2024.

Sarah Beaty, an accomplished ceramic artist based in Fort Yukon, Alaska, will offer demonstrations of her unique techniques in high-fire porcelain and stoneware. She specializes in the Phoenix fast-fire style wood kiln, a technique she practices just north of the Arctic Circle. Beaty has exhibited her work in renowned museums and galleries, including the ºÚÁÏÉçappState Museum and the University of Iowa Museum of Art. Her expertise spans over two decades, with experiences as an artist, lecturer, and instructor in Alaska, Iowa, and France.

Event Schedule

Ceramic Demonstrations:
Wednesday & Thursday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (with a break from 12:00 – 1:00 PM)
Location: UAF Fine Arts Complex, Room 415

Participants will have the chance to observe Beaty’s throwing, handbuilding, and slip-casting techniques in action, and gain insights into her creative process.

Visiting Artist Lecture:
Wednesday, 6:00 – 7:00 PM
Location: BP Theatre, UAF Fine Arts Complex

Beaty will share her artistic journey and experiences working in remote Alaska, offering a deeper understanding of her creative approach and influences.
