Great ºÚÁÏÉçappShakeOut

Oct. 19, 2022

At 10:20 a.m. on Oct. 20, 2022, hundreds of thousands of people will "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" in The Great ºÚÁÏÉçappShakeOut, the state's largest earthquake drill ever! Participation can be as simple as a one-minute "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" training. All colleges and universities are encouraged to participate (or plan a more extensive exercise).

ºÚÁÏÉçapphas more earthquakes than any other state, and no one can predict when the next one is coming. The ShakeOut is our chance to practice how to protect ourselves and for everyone to become prepared. Why is a "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" drill important? To respond quickly, you'll need to practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong shaking knocks you down or something falls on you.

Know how to protect yourself! Practice earthquake-safe actions on Oct. 20. Why? Because when the adrenaline kicks in, you may not act with safety in mind if you haven't practiced the Drop, Cover, Hold On drill before that moment. Don't wait until the shaking starts – register at to practice earthquake safety.

So, invite everyone who matters to you to register and ShakeOut this year – on Oct. 20 or whatever day works... Everyone is welcome to participate!
